Association of time to treatment with short-term outcomes for pediatric patients with refractory convulsive status epilepticus

JAMA Neurology Jan 27, 2018

Gainza-Lein M, et al. - Physicians investigated the association between untimely first-line benzodiazepine treatment and unfavorable short-term outcome in children with refractory convulsive status epilepticus (RCSE). An untimely first-line benzodiazepine treatment was independently correlated with a higher frequency of death, use of continuous infusions, longer convulsion duration, and more frequent hypotension among pediatric patients with RCSE. A question arose as to whether poor outcomes could be partly prevented by earlier administration of treatment.
