Association of the age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index and systemic inflammation with survival in gastric cancer patients after radical gastrectomy

European Journal of Surgical Oncology Jul 19, 2019

Lin JX, et al. - Researchers examined survival in gastric cancer (GC) patients who underwent radical gastrectomy in associations to Age-Adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index (ACCI) and preoperative systemic inflammation. Retrospective analysis of data of 2257 GC patients who underwent radical gastrectomy in Fujian Medical University Union Hospital was done. Patients with gastric cancer displayed an association of ACCI with preoperative systemic inflammation. Multivariate analysis revealed the independent prognostic value of the ACCI and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for overall survival. Improvement in prognostication for GC patients can be achieved by combining ACCI and NLR, which are commonly collected biomarkers.
