JAMA Dermatology Feb 17, 2019
Chien AL, et al. - Researchers studied 4 females with acne to identify the association of the composition, diversity, and resilience of skin microbiota with a systemic antibiotic perturbation in this longitudinal cohort study conducted at an academic referral center in Maryland from February 11 to September 23, 2014. They noticed a relationship between antibiotic treatment and a 1.4-fold reduction in the level of C acnes with recovery following cessation of treatment. An association of antibiotic administration with an initial reduction (from baseline) of bacterial diversity was recorded followed by recovery.
