Preventive Medicine Apr 22, 2021
Huang HL, Abe SK, Sawada N, et al. - In this study, the relationship between sugary drinks and mortality was evaluated in Japan. Researchers recruited a total of 70,486 participants in the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study at the age of 45–74 years in 1995–1999. They used a validated food frequency questionnaire to evaluate the consumption of sugary drinks. They computed the risk of total and cause-specific mortality associated with sugary drink consumption using Cox proportional hazards regression model. It was shown that sugary drink consumption was correlated with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in this large Japanese prospective study.
