Association of statins, aspirin, and venous thromboembolism in women with endometrial cancer
Gynecologic Oncology Jan 10, 2019
Matsuo K, et al. – In this study, researchers examined the association of statin and/or aspirin use with venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk in endometrial cancer. They conducted a multicenter retrospective study that included 2,527 women with endometrial cancer between 2000 and 2015, and identified 132 VTE events with a 5-year cumulative incidence rate of 6.1%. They noted a possible association of statin use with decreased risk of VTE in women with endometrial cancer. Simvastatin was identified to induce the largest reduction of VTE risk when stratification was done by statin type. Obesity, absence of diabetes mellitus, type II histology, and recurrent disease were the factors associated with decreased VTE risk with statin use.
