Association of statins, aspirin, and venous thromboembolism in women with endometrial cancer
Gynecologic Oncology Mar 17, 2019
Matsuo K, et al. - In this multi-center retrospective study of 2,527 women with endometrial cancer, researchers examined the link between statin and/or aspirin use and venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk in these patients using multivariable analysis. Overall 132 VTE events were reported with a 6.1% 5-year cumulative incidence rate. Overall 392 (15.5%) and 219 (8.7%) statin and aspirin users, respectively, were included. About 60% decreased risk of VTE was reported with statin use vs non-use; no statistical significance was seen with aspirin. The largest reduction of VTE risk was offered by simvastatin. The factors related to reduced VTE risk with statin use were obesity, absence of diabetes mellitus, type II histology, and recurrent disease. Overall, decreased risk of VTE could be seen in relation to statin use in women with endometrial cancer.
