Association of statins and 28-day mortality in patients hospitalized with SARS CoV-2 infection
The Journal of Infectious Diseases Oct 26, 2021
Memel ZN, Lee JJ, Foulkes AS, et al. - In patients hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 infection, in-hospital statin use resulted in reduced 28-day mortality.
A cohort study of 1,179 patients with SARS-CoV-2, divided into 4 groups: those who took statins before hospitalization (continued, discontinued) and those who did not (newly initiated, never).
A decreased hazard of death was reported in relation to inpatient statin use (HR 0.566).
This relationship held in those who did and did not receive statins prior to hospitalization (HRs 0.270 and 0.493).
Statin use conferred improved time-to-death for patients >65 years, but not those ≤65 years.
