JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Apr 21, 2020
Bruins TE, van Veen MM, Mooibroek-Leeuwerke T, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to identify factors correlated with health-related quality of life in patients with facial palsy. A total of 121 patients [median age was 62 years (interquartile range, 48-71 years)] with facial palsy were involved. The Facial Disability Index social score was associated with bilateral facial pals, extraversion, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and depression. The Sunnybrook composite score was related to age in the sensitivity analysis. In future research and treatment of patients with facial palsy, account should be taken of bilateral facial palsy, age, severity of facial palsy, mental distress, and personality traits.
