Association of social isolation with disability burden and 1-year mortality among older adults with critical illness

Falvey JR, Cohen AB, O’Leary JR, et al. - A nationally representative cohort study was conducted with the aim to determine if social isolation is linked with poor functional outcomes and 1-year mortality among older adults with critical illness.
A total of 997 patients were included.
There appeared a significant correlation of more social isolation with a higher disability burden and increased likelihood of death within 1 year of hospital admission.
Per findings, social isolation is linked with a risk of poor outcomes among older adults with critical illness.
