Association of smoking and obesity on the risk of developing primary Sjögren syndrome: A population-based cohort study
The Journal of Rheumatology Jul 05, 2019
Servioli L, et al. – In a cohort of 106 Olmsted County (Minnesota, USA) residents with primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) who received their diagnoses from 2000 to 2015, researchers investigated the role of smoking and obesity in pSS. According to findings, current smokers were less likely to be pSS patients; however, there was no correlation between former smoking and case/control status in comparison to never-smokers. No association of smoking status with antinuclear antibody, anti-SSA, anti-SSB, or rheumatoid factor positivity could be ascertained. For obesity, OR was 0.79. Hence, current smoking had an inverse relationship with case/control status, but body mass index had no association.
