Association of serum calcium and insulin resistance with hypertension risk: A prospective population-based study
Journal of the American Heart Association Jan 06, 2019
Wu X, et al. - In this prospective population-based study conducted in China, researchers investigated the link between serum calcium and insulin resistance (IR) with hypertension risk. They collected data from a cohort of 8,653 individuals aged 20-74 years, with an average follow-up of 5.3 years to assess the conjoint effects of serum calcium and IR at baseline on hypertension at follow-up. According to findings, peripheral IR may be preceded by higher serum calcium levels, and this one-way relation may play a role in the development of hypertension.
