Association of seasonal severity and vaccine effectiveness with influenza vaccination rates in children
JAMA Nov 19, 2019
Abraham C, et al. - Using publicly available data, experts investigated the correlations of seasonal influenza severity and current and former year’s vaccine effectiveness (VE) with yearly vaccination rates within age groups. Among children, influenza vaccination rates continue to be lower compared with other pediatric and adolescent vaccines. Many variables may impact if a child is vaccinated against influenza. Nonetheless, to what extent, if any, the severity of an influenza season and either prevailing or former year’s vaccine effectiveness (VE) could impact vaccination rates have still to be investigated, to the knowledge. Moreover, this data could be relevant in learning how to share severity and VE data with parents.
