Association of rideshare use with alcohol-associated motor vehicle crash trauma
JAMA Aug 17, 2021
Conner CR, Ray HM, McCormack RM, et al. - Rideshare use to avoid impaired driving may aid in lowering motor vehicle trauma rate among young people.
This is a multicenter cohort study.
Hospital data were obtained at both major trauma centers in Houston, Texas; convictions for impaired driving from the Harris County, Texas, District Attorney’s office; and Uber and Google for Houston provided rideshare use data.
There was a significant negative correlation between rideshare volume and the incidence of motor vehicle–associated trauma, and this was most evident in those younger than 30 years.
The introduction of rideshare services led to a significant reduction in convictions for impaired driving.
