Association of psoriasis with colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta- analysis
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Oct 07, 2020
Fu Y, et al. - By performing this systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies, researchers ascertained whether and how psoriasis is associated with colorectal cancer (CRC). Relevant studies were identified by exploring MEDLINE and Embase on March 24, 2020. Experts analyzed nine cohort studies comprising 10,544,609 persons. Patients with psoriasis were found to have a significantly raised risk for CRC. In subgroups analysis based on gender, female psoriatic patients but not male ones were found to have a significantly elevated risk for CRC. Overall, findings showed the presence of an increased risk for CRC in patients suffering from psoriasis. For patients with psoriasis exhibiting bowel symptoms, gastroenterology consultation as well as colonoscopic evaluation is indicated.
