Association of preterm birth with risk of ischemic heart disease in adulthood
JAMA Jun 09, 2019
Crump C, et al. - Through a large population-based cohort study of 2.1 million people, researchers assessed the correlation between an increased risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in adulthood to preterm birth. A significant association was found between preterm and early-term birth and IHD in adulthood; early evaluation and preventive actions could reduce the risk of IHD in these patients. Preterm-born women had a reduced IHD incidence vs preterm-born men but with a higher adjusted hazard ratio. Shared genetic or environmental factors in families did not explain these correlations.
