Ng PY, et al. - Whether or not a pre-operatively diagnosed patent foramen ovale (PFO) is associated with an increased risk of peri-operative ischemic stroke was determined. Among adult patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery at 3 hospitals, pre-operatively diagnosed PFO was shown to be associated with an increased risk of peri-operative stroke within 30 days after surgery.
