Association of preadmission metformin use and mortality in patients with sepsis and diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
Critical Care Feb 23, 2019
Liang H, et al. - In septic adult patients with diabetes mellitus, the link between preadmission metformin use and mortality was examined via a systematic review and meta-analysis of published observational cohort data extracted from the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane CENTRAL databases from inception to September 30, 2018. Researchers used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) to assess the quality of outcomes. They computed the pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs by using inverse variance method with random effects modelling. Finally, they analyzed 5 observational cohort studies, with 1,282 patients. These studies had a low risk of bias. According to the findings of the meta-analysis, lower mortality was observed in relation to metformin use prior to admission in septic adult patients with diabetes mellitus.
