Association of powder use in the genital area with risk of ovarian cancer
JAMA Jan 14, 2020
O’Brien KM, Tworoger SS, Harris HR, et al. - A prospective observational study was conducted to investigate the correlation between use of powder in the genital area and ovarian cancer. They recruited a sum of 252,745 women. They obtained data from 4 large, US-based cohorts: Nurses’ Health Study, Nurses’ Health Study II, Sister Study, and Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study. Primarily, the correlation between ever use of powder in the genital area and self-reported incident ovarian cancer was analyzed. They computed covariate-adjusted hazard ratios and 95% CIs by using Cox proportional hazards models. No statistically significant link was found between use of powder in the genital area and incident ovarian cancer in this analysis of pooled data from women in 4 US cohorts. Nevertheless, the research may have been underpowered to distinguish a small increase in risk.
