Association of positive airway pressure prescription with mortality in patients with obesity and severe obstructive sleep apnea: The Sleep Heart Health Study
JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery May 08, 2019
Lisan Q, et al. - In this multicenter, population-based cohort study of 392 subjects with obesity and severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with 11 years of follow-up, researchers studied the connection between positive airway pressure (PAP) prescription and mortality. The difference in mortality appears 6 to 7 years after initiation of PAP therapy according to survival curves. Findings revealed that PAP prescription was linked to decreased all-cause mortality, which appears several years after initiation of PAP. These findings can have strong clinical implications if replicated.
