Association of pediatric suicide with county-level poverty in the United States, 2007-2016
JAMA Pediatrics Mar 06, 2020
Hoffmann JA, et al. - In this cross-sectional study involving 20,982 US youths aged 5 to 19 years who died by suicide from 2007 to 2016, researchers explored the connection between pediatric suicide rates and county-level poverty concentration. Data reported that the annual suicide rate was 3.35 per 100,000 youths aged 5 to 19 years. Among youths aged 5 to 19 years, higher county-level poverty concentration is related to increased suicide rates. Such results can direct research into upstream risk factors linked to pediatric suicide to inform efforts to prevent suicide.
