Association of patient comorbid conditions with cancer clinical trial participation
JAMA Mar 20, 2019
Unger JM, et al. - Researchers investigated if comorbidities in patients with cancer has any impact on the decision-making for participation in cancer clinical trials. In addition, they examined how reducing comorbidity exclusion criteria could influence trial participation. Data from a national survey of 5,499 patients with cancer were analyzed and indicated an association of an increase in comorbidities with significantly reduced trial discussions, offers, and participation itself. An opportunity for several thousand more patients with well-managed comorbidities to participate in trials each year could be provided by updating eligibility criteria.
