Association of oxidative stress with clinical characteristics in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
European Journal of Clinical Investigation Dec 03, 2017
Kardes S, et al. - Researchers examined if oxidative stress exhibited any link with the clinical parameters and disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). An inverse association was brought to light between plasma nonenzymatic superoxide radical scavenger activity (NSSA) levels with tender and swollen joints count and Disease Activity Score (DAS28). Additionally, an independent connection was unveiled between NSSA with DAS28, in RA patients treated with traditional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). The yielded data provided initial support that NSSA could be used as a biomarker of disease activity in RA patients.
