Association of overlapping surgery with increased risk for complications following hip surgery: A population-based, matched cohort study
JAMA Internal Medicine Dec 07, 2017
Ravi B, et al. - Researchers ascertained if overlapping surgery correlated with greater risk for complications following surgical treatment for hip fracture and arthritis. It was determined that overlapping surgery was relatively rare. However, it was related to an increased risk for surgical complications. A link was also unveiled between the increasing duration of operative overlap with an increasing risk for complications. The yielded data supported the notion that overlapping provision of surgery ought to be included in the informed consent process.
