Li SJ, et al. - Disease-related financial burden and out-of-pocket costs for patients with alopecia areata (AA) were determined. In AA, immune-mediated nonscarring hair loss occurs. Current medical treatments do not provide satisfactory outcomes in many of these patients and hence the patients opt for alternative therapies, wigs, and other cosmetic products. These patients may experience financial burden attributed collectively to expenses including insurance premiums, copayments, deductibles, lost income, transportation, and wigs.
