Association of obesity with survival in patients with endometrial cancer
Gynecologic Oncology Jul 03, 2019
Van Arsdale A, et al. - In women with endometrial cancer, how survival is influenced by obesity was investigated in this study. Researchers obtained histopathological, treatment and demographic data from women with diagnosis and treatment of endometrial cancer from 1999 to 2016. The Social Security Death Index was queried to corroborate death. They performed Kaplan Meier survival curves and Cox regression modeling with Stata version 14.0. Overall evaluable patients were 1732. Factors that showed independent relation to a reduced hazard of mortality were younger age, endometrioid histology, lower stage, and statin use. Findings revealed the association of obesity with younger age at diagnosis and earlier stage disease. For stage 3 and 4 non-endometrioid endometrial cancers, improved disease specific survival was reported in relation to obesity.
