Association of nonadherence to cancer screening examinations with mortality from unrelated causes: A secondary analysis of the PLCO Cancer Screening trial
JAMA Internal Medicine Jan 04, 2019
Pierre-Victor D, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed the relationship between nonadherence to cancer screening tests and mortality in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening trial, excluding cancer mortality. From November 8, 1993, to July 2, 2001, randomization at 10 US screening centers occurred. The data presented in this work showed a nonadherence behavior profile marked by nonadherence to protocol screenings was correlated with higher overall mortality (excluding deaths from cancers studied in the trial) among participants in a screening trial for multiple cancers. The generalizability of this finding should be evaluated in the routine clinical practice.
