Association of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with thyroid function: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Digestive and Liver Diseases Aug 29, 2018
Guo Z, et al. - The researchers carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the impact of thyroid function parameters and hypothyroidism on the development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and progression to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The selection of the studies was carried out using PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane library databases. The outcomes revealed that the association of NAFLD with free triiodothyronine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4) levels was heterogeneous among the population. The findings from the present study suggested that thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level could be an important risk factor for the development and progression of NAFLD, independent of thyroid hormones.
