Association of neuromuscular reversal by sugammadex and neostigmine with 90-day mortality after non-cardiac surgery
BMC Anesthesiology Feb 28, 2020
Oh TK, et al. - Given reduced postoperative complications have been noted with neuromuscular blockade reversal by sugammadex, researchers undertook this retrospective cohort analysis to compare the influences of sugammadex and neostigmine in terms of 90-day mortality following non-cardiac surgery. They examined the medical records of adult patients aged 18 years or older who had non-cardiac surgery between 2011 and 2016 at a single tertiary care hospital. According to the findings, lower 90-day mortality following non-cardiac surgery might be reported in correlation with reversing rocuronium with sugammadex vs neostigmine. However, cautious interpretation of the findings is advised as quantitative neuromuscular function in the postoperative period was not assessed because of the retrospective design of this study.
