Association of neonatal glycemia with neurodevelopmental outcomes at 4.5 years
JAMA Pediatrics Nov 05, 2017
McKinlay CJD, et al. - The proposition explored herein was that the neurodevelopment at 4.5 years was associated with the severity and frequency of neonatal hypoglycemia. No link was displayed between the neonatal hypoglycemia with the increased risk of combined neurosensory impairment at 4.5 years. However, it appeared to be related to a dose-dependent increased risk of poor executive function and visual motor function, even if not detected clinically. Hence, it could exert an impact on the later learning. In order to identify the optimal screening and intervention thresholds based on the analysis of neurodevelopment, at least to school age, advanced research was warranted.
