Association of muscular strength and incidence of type 2 diabetes
Mayo Clinic Proceedings Mar 15, 2019
Wang Y, et al. - In this study, researchers analyzed the correlation between muscular strength and incident type 2 diabetes, independent of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). Study participants included 4,681 adults (aged 20-100 years) free of type 2 diabetes at baseline. Between January 1, 1981, and December 31, 2006, participants completed muscular strength tests and maximal treadmill exercise tests. In all, 4.9% of participants developed type 2 diabetes over a mean follow-up of 8.3 years. According to findings, moderate muscle strength level was related to a lower type 2 diabetes risk, regardless of estimated CRF.
