Association of mortality with aortic stenosis severity in outpatients
JAMA Cardiology Dec 17, 2021
Coisne A, Montaigne D, Aghezzaf S, et al. - An elevated risk of mortality may not exist in asymptomatic patients with moderate aortic stenosis (AS) receiving standard symptomatic and echocardiographic follow-up.
This is a cohort study wherein 2,703 patients with mild, moderate, and severe AS were followed up by 117 cardiologists for a median of 2.1 years.
Of participants, those suffering from moderate AS were found to have a slightly higher risk of cardiovascular death compared with patients having mild AS, but this risk was much lower than that noted in severe AS.
Moreover, in asymptomatic cases, moderate and mild AS was identified to be linked with similar cardiovascular death.
