Association of molecular status and metastatic organs at diagnosis in patients with stage IV non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer

Lung Cancer May 19, 2018

Kuijpers CCHJ, et al. - In a nationwide stage IV non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer ((ns)-NSCLC) cohort, researchers determined the link between molecular status and metastatic organs at diagnosis. Bone (34%), pleura (24%), lung (23%), and brain (22%) were most frquently metastasized. More often metastasis to the bone and pleura and less often to the brain and adrenal glands were detected in cases with EGFR+ tumors vs triple-negatives. KRAS+ and ALK+ tumors had at diagnosis metastasized more often to the lung and the liver, respectively, relative to triple-negatives. Overall, NSCLC molecular status was found to be related to metastatic pattern at diagnosis. Bone metastases at diagnosis were present in 54% of stage IV EGFR+ ns-NSCLC patients.
