Association of Medicaid expansion with cardiovascular mortality
JAMA Jun 12, 2019
Khatana SAM, et al. - Via performing a longitudinal, observational design, difference-in-differences analysis involving middle-aged adults (45 to 64 years of age) from 48 states, researchers investigated the association of Medicaid expansion with cardiovascular mortality rates. According to findings, counties in states that expanded Medicaid demonstrated a significantly smaller increase in cardiovascular mortality rates among middle-aged adults following expansion vs counties in states that did not expand Medicaid. Overall, the authors concluded that the recent Medicaid expansion was linked to lower cardiovascular mortality in middle-aged adults and may, therefore, be of consideration as further expansion of Medicaid is discussed.
