Association of lung clearance index with survival in individuals with cystic fibrosis
European Respiratory Journal Jul 26, 2021
Kurz JM, Ramsey KA, Rodriguez R, et al. - Among cystic fibrosis (CF) patients analyzed in this retrospective study, the association of lung clearance index (LCI) with the risk of death or lung transplantation (LTX) was assessed. Researchers included 237 CF patients with a mean (range) age of 13.9 (5.6–41.0) years in this study. The time-to-event analysis accrued 3813 person-years and 94 (40%) patients died or underwent LTX. Findings demonstrated a greater risk of death or LTX in relation to increased ventilation inhomogeneity. The findings of this study lend support to LCI as a novel surrogate of survival in CF patients.
