Association of low serum meteorin like (Metrnl) concentrations with worsening of glucose tolerance, impaired endothelial function and atherosclerosis
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Mar 04, 2019
EL-Ashmawy HM, et al. - In this study involving 260 adults, researchers determined if low serum meteorin-like (Metrnl) levels were correlated with worsening of glucose tolerance, impaired endothelial function, and atherosclerosis. Compared with participants who had normal oral glucose tolerance (nOGT), serum Metrnl levels in type 2 diabetic patients decreased significantly. Findings suggested that low serum Metrnl might be related to worsening of glucose tolerance, impaired endothelial function, and atherosclerosis. It may also be a surrogate marker of endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis, and an independent risk factor of type 2 diabetes.
