Association of long-term diet quality with hippocampal volume: Longitudinal cohort study
American Journal of Medicine Aug 01, 2018
Akbaraly T, et al. - Whether cumulative average of Alternative Healthy Eating Index 2010 (AHEI-2010) score during adult life (an 11-year exposure period) was correlated with hippocampal volume was examined via analyzing data of 459 study participants of the Whitehall Brain Imaging substudy. Findings from the present study suggest that larger hippocampal were correlated with volumes higher long-term AHEI-2010 scores. It was noted that a healthy diet was correlated with lessened risk of depression and brain aging outcomes. Researchers found that long-term adherence to the healthy diet was linked to larger hippocampal volumes. The outcomes revealed that low alcohol intake was the key component associated with larger hippocampus volume.
