Association of Life's Simple 7 with atrial fibrillation burden (from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study)
The American Journal of Cardiology Oct 09, 2020
Wang W, Norby FL, Rooney MR, et al. - Researchers analyzed 2,363 participants (58% were female and 24% were black) in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study in order to examine the prospective link of overall LS7 (American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7) score and individual LS7 risk factors in midlife with AF burden in late-life. At Visit 3 (1993 to 1995), LS7 components were evaluated. A composite score ranging from 0 to 14 was computed. Better cardiovascular health is indicated by a higher score. Following multivariable adjustment, 0.87 higher odds of continuous AF vs no AF was reported in relation to each 1-point increase in LS7 score. A greater AF burden was noted in correlation with poor levels of physical activity, BMI, and fasting blood glucose, individually. In this population-based prospective cohort study, a higher AF burden in late-life was observed in relation to unfavorable cardiovascular health profile in midlife.
