Association of left ventricular ejection fraction with worsening renal function in patients with acute heart failure: Insights from the RELAX‐AHF‐2 study
European Journal of Heart Failure Sep 26, 2020
Feng S, Janwanishstaporn S, Teerlink J, et al. - Among patients enrolled in RELAX‐AHF(acute heart failure)‐2, researchers evaluated incidence of worsening renal function (WRF), factors associated with its development as well as effect of WRF on post‐discharge results across the spectrum of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). This study involved 6,112 patients who underwent LVEF evaluation on admission and renal function ascertained prospectively during hospitalization. According to the findings, WRF incidence during AHF hospitalization rose progressively with LVEF. In patients with higher LVEF, greater susceptibility to WRF seemed more associated with their advanced age and worse underlying kidney function instead of hemodynamic or treatment impacts. An increased risk of post‐discharge events was observed in relation to WRF except in patients in the lowest LVEF quartile.
