Association of kidney disease with outcomes in COVID‐19: Results from the American Heart Association COVID‐19 Cardiovascular Disease registry
Journal of the American Heart Association Jun 16, 2021
Rao A, Ranka S, Ayers C, et al. - Via this large, multicenter, retrospective study, links between chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and mortality and cardiovascular outcomes were examined among patients hospitalized with COVID‐19. Regarding baseline features and serial laboratory results during index hospitalization, information was obtained from 8574 patients with COVID‐19 from 88 US hospitals. All-cause mortality was assessed as the primary outcome. Post-multivariate adjustment, there was no relation of CKD and end‐stage kidney disease with mortality or major adverse cardiac events. Findings showed that AKI was significantly related to all‐cause mortality, as well as to major adverse cardiovascular events (a revelation for the first time ever), among patients hospitalized with COVID‐19.
