Association of ischemia modified albumin with mortality in qsofa positive sepsis patients by sepsis-3 in the emergency department
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Feb 02, 2021
Park J, Ahn S, Lee S, et al. - Given the essentiality of the early detection and treatment of sepsis and septic shock patients in emergency departments, researchers here examined if ischemia modified albumin (IMA: a biomarker produced by ischemia and oxygen free radicals) was linked with short-term mortality in quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA)-positive sepsis or septic shock patients screened by the sepsis management program. In this retrospective observational study, they included 124 patients who arrived at the emergency departments with qSOFA-positive sepsis or septic shock. Higher IMA was observed in the non-surviving group vs the surviving group. Overall observation indicated association of IMA with 28-day mortality in qSOFA-positive sepsis and septic shock patients in the emergency departments.
