Association of intravenous immunoglobulins plus methylprednisolone vs immunoglobulins alone with course of fever in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children
JAMA Mar 05, 2021
Ouldali N, Toubiana J, Antona D, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for comparing the outcomes of children with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection treated with intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) and methylprednisolone vs IVIG alone. The sample consisted of 111 children (58 females [52%]; median age, 8.6 years [interquartile range, 4.7 to 12.1]) with MIS-C. According to this retrospective cohort study, treatment with IVIG and methylprednisolone vs IVIG alone was linked to a lower risk of treatment failure. Treatment with IVIG and methylprednisolone vs IVIG alone was correlated with a more favorable fever course in children with MIS-C. The interpretation of the study is limited to the observational design.
