Association of intracranial aneurysms with aortic aneurysms in 125 patients with fusiform and 4,253 patients with saccular intracranial aneurysms and their family members and population controls
Journal of Vascular Surgery Jan 27, 2020
Kurtelius A, et al. - Data from the Kuopio Intracranial Aneurysm and Patient Database of the Finnish registry and matched population controls from 1980 and 2015 were retrospectively analyzed for determining the correlation between intracranial aneurysms and aortic aneurysms in 125 patients with fusiform and 4,253 patients with saccular intracranial aneurysms and their family members and population controls. Of 125 patients, An aortic aneurysm was diagnosed in 17 of 125 patients (14%) with fusiform intracranial aneurysms and 48 of 4,253 (1%) patients with saccular intracranial aneurysms. Patients with fusiform intracranial aneurysms exhibited a significantly increased prevalence of aortic aneurysms and patients with saccular intracranial aneurysms exhibited a slight increase when compared with their controls or relatives. Hence patients with fusiform intracranial aneurysms should be screened for aortic aneurysms.
