Association of insulin dose, cardiometabolic risk factors, and cardiovascular disease in type 1 diabetes during 30 years of follow-up in the DCCT/EDIC study
Diabetes Care Feb 13, 2019
Braffett BH, et al. - In this analysis of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial/Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (DCCT/EDIC) study, researchers assessed the association between longitudinal changes in insulin dose and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and outcomes. During the DCCT, a total of 1,441 participants were randomly assigned to intensive or conventional diabetes therapy. Even after multivariate adjustment, higher doses of insulin were significantly linked with several less favorable cardiometabolic risk factors (higher BMI, pulse rate, triglycerides, and lower HDL cholesterol) during DCCT/EDIC, but not with CVD results incidents.
