Association of inflammatory bowel disease and acute anterior uveitis, but not psoriasis, with disease duration in patients with axial spondyloarthritis
Arthritis & Rheumatology Oct 04, 2018
Varkas G, et al. - In patients with axial spondyloarthritis (SpA), researchers assessed the relationship between extraarticular manifestations (EAMs) and baseline characteristics. They also defined their possibly differential prognostic value in two large, independent Belgian axial SpA cohorts with distinct recruitment periods. In patients with axial SpA, the risk of developing acute anterior uveitis or inflammatory bowel disease, but not psoriasis, appeared to increase with disease duration and to be linked to a higher cumulative exposure to inflammation, therefore, possibly explaining the differential structural progression observed in those with axial SpA.
