Association of inflammation with progression of hair loss in women with frontal fibrosing alopecia
JAMA Dermatology Apr 29, 2020
Saceda-Corralo D, Pindado-Ortega C, Moreno-Arrones OM, et al. - Researchers performed this prospective cohort study between January 2016 and June 2019 to explore the connection between inflammation and progression of hair loss in women with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA). Requirements for patient participation is 18 years of age or older and met the FFA diagnostic criteria. All patients received oral dutasteride (0.5 mg 3 times weekly), topical clobetasol (twice weekly), and triamcinolone injections (4-8 mg/mL every 6 months). The authors found that there was no development of alopecia when the Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia Severity Score (FFASS) extent score was not increased, and that inflammation was controlled when the mean FFASS inflammation score remained below 1. A 2-sided P value < .05 was considered to be statistically significant. Analysis of SPSS statistical software version 15.0 (IBM Corp) was performed.
