Association of hypoglycaemia and risk of cardiac arrhythmia in patients with diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Jun 11, 2018
Fitzpatrick C, et al. - Researchers examined the connection between hypoglycemia and risk of cardiac arrhythmia in patients with diabetes mellitus through a systematic review and meta-analysis. They searched Ovid Medline, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and Cochrane from inception to October 10, 2017. Studies of adults with diabetes (type 1 or type 2) that compared acute electrocardiogram (ECG) changes during episodes of hypoglycemia and euglycemic were included. According to the findings obtained, hypoglycemia resulted in ECG alterations that were linked with increased risk of cardiac arrhythmia, which was correlated with increased cardiovascular events and mortality.
