Association of hypertriglyceridemic waist-to-height ratio and its dynamic status with incident hypertension: The Rural Chinese Cohort Study
Journal of Hypertension Nov 14, 2019
Li Q, Zhang D, Guo C, et al. - Among participants from the Rural Chinese Cohort Study, researchers examined the link of hypertriglyceridemic waist-to-height ratio (HWHtR) as well as its dynamic status with hypertension (HTN). They studied data for 10,312 nonhypertensive individuals aged at least 18 years at the baseline examination and observed until 2014. They assessed the likelihood of incident HTN according to HWHtR and its transformation, using multiple logistic regression models. They estimated odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. During follow-up period, incident HTN was found in 127 men and 225 women who had high triglyceride level and high waist-to-height ratio. Findings revealed a link of HWHtR and its dynamic status with incident HTN for rural Chinese men. The possibility of HWHtR serving as an indicator for interventions focusing at reducing HTN among these men was also suggested in this cohort study.
