JAMA Neurology Mar 23, 2018
Tiruvoipati R, et al. - Experts undertook an appraisal of the correlation between compensated hypercapnia and hypercapnic acidosis during the first 24 hours of Intensive Care Unit admission on hospital mortality among adult mechanically ventilated subjects presenting with cerebral injury. Results demonstrated a connection between hypercapnic acidosis with an increased risk of hospital mortality in such individuals. It was reported that when compensated to normal pH during the first 24 hours of intensive care unit admission, hypercapnia was possibly not harmful in mechanically ventilated patients with cerebral injury.
