Jiang J, et al. - Researchers assessed a national surgical database to examine the possible predictive factors for postsurgery hospitalization duration and its association with readmission after open pancreaticoduodenectomy. They observed that new reimbursement policies under the Affordable Care Act Hospital Readmission Reduction Program pressurized the hospitals to reduce the costs by expediting care and discharge after surgery. Although, premature discharge was considered in association with subsequent complications and readmission of cases after open pancreaticoduodenectomy.
