Association of hospital employee satisfaction with patient safety and satisfaction within Veterans Affairs Medical Centers
American Journal of Medicine Apr 03, 2019
Kang R, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between organizational satisfaction and job-specific satisfaction with measures of patient safety, patient satisfaction, and hospital rating using data from the Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) through their Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning program. Using Pearson and Spearman's correlation, the connection between employee satisfaction with their organization and with their specific job were analyzed across indicators of patient care. Investigators found that employee job-specific satisfaction and satisfaction with the organization are distinct metrics in health care. No correlation is found between job-specific satisfaction and patient outcomes. Findings suggested an association of improved patient safety and greater patient satisfaction with higher employee satisfaction with the organization.
